At
Park View Alpacas: We
don't do Hype, We don't do Politics. All
we do is "criate" Alpacas. The
animals and pedigrees SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES!
Once
again, we at Park View have tested our pedigrees!
Park View just returned from the 2007 International
Alpaca Odyssey. Our animals went before
three totally-independent judges, from three different
countries, with no financial interest in
the results. That concept was very refreshing,
which is why we had such enthusiastic attendance!
We consider this the minimal ethical requirement
of every show. What alternative could we
possibly ask for? Some may criticize the
show for its International affiliation, and some
may criticize it for its 60/40 judging criteria.
We personally shoot straight down the line.
Although we have always emphasized conformation
in our breeding program, we are not afraid of
showing under the 60/40 rules as long as it is
under independent judges. We more than welcomed
our opportunity to show our animals under this
particular format!
So, what was the bottom line?
Park View
won fourteen Blue Ribbons! These
included not only eleven first-place awards
in the halter classes, but also both male
and female Suri "Best Head," as well as "Produce
of Dam" for the fifth consecutive time!
We also took second in "Get-of-sire" with
brown Suri offspring out of Montoya
of PVA, taking second only to white!
We also won Grand
Champion and/or both Grand Champion and Reserve Champion in every class
in which we were eligible for a Championship!
Once again, we also won the Supreme
Champion female Suri award! Ivory Princess of PVA won
first place, "Best Head," and Supreme
Champion!
Interestingly,
ALL of these animals are from the same lines
as Mahogany
Prince of PVA (shown on the
left) and his offspring from left to right:
Montoya
of PVA, Kobe
of PVA and Keanu
of PVA.
When
you have produced Suri alpacas that are
greater than any ever seen before in North
America or perhaps the world, you naturally
want to strive to take them up to the next
step up the ladder. This is a challenge.
We have tried out-crossing to the "famous"
lines, but have been thus far disappointed,
as the sire has NOT produced any significant
phenotypic improvement. "He" has also decreased
the quality of the prior production from
the same females. It is therefore
no wonder Mahogany Prince personally
prevailed over other lines during his show
career. There was a genetic reason
for his winnings and that same reason still
exists today when his offspring show under
independent judges. What is not displayed
in the show ring is the outstanding health
and predictable reproductive soundness of
these genetics. We
are no longer concerned with any deleterious
effects with line-breeding this line, as
we have thoroughly tested these genetics.
Unlike the line-bred animals imported from
Peru, who tend to show a preponderance of
low IgG's, poor milk production, compromised
fertility, low cria retention rate, conformational
abnormalities, Choanal Atresia, and other
abnormalities. We have fortunately
observed virtually none of these problems
with our line-bred offspring. To the
contrary, we have observed more consistent
production of desirable-quality fiber traits
and a true Suri phenotype. We
are striving to be responsible alpaca "BREEDERS",
in the veritable livestock breeding modality,
for continual and selective breed improvements.
Although we do not feel a "Breed Standard"
is appropriate for this time in our industry,
we are confident that all of our alpacas,
both Huacaya and Suri, adhere very closely
to the proposed "Breed Standards."
Our success in the show ring more than verifies
this concept.
With
virtually no hype, no false-advertising,
and no politics, all we do is breed
and "criate" alpacas. The animals,
with Fourteen Blue Ribbons in one unbiased
show, speak for themselves!
At
Park View Alpacas we cherish, value and
undeniably stand up for ETHICS in all that
we do! We are grateful for the fair and
ethical judging environment we feel was
created at the International Alpaca Odyssey
and are very proud of our results!
We
look forward to seeing all of our alpaca
friends again at The Futurity! Let's all
have a GREAT time!
